What is, an animatic?

An animatic is like a living storyboard. And I’m making one! It’s for the prologue of The Justin Movie.

An animatic is made before a proper animation to get good scenes and timings…. But it doesn’t HAVE to become an animation, it can just be an idea. Here are the storyboard scenes that I will bring to life. I’ve written notes about each scene too.

I’ve done an animatic before for my old comic animation: ‘Justin, Baykaii and Courtney in New York’. I drew a comic, then took photographs of every scene. We've put them onto iMovie, which is something you use to make your own cartoon or movie. Each scene is on for as long as you want it to be. This is called timing. I also added a voiceover, a voice recording for characters and narration. While I was doing the voiceover and some sound effects, we've added one real sound effect to it.… THE ALARM!

I also did a sort of animatic for the new ‘Justin Movie’ trailer. First I started with the title, the poster and the story, then I made the trailer. Later, I drew some characters, downloaded and edited some live-action backgrounds for my scenes, then we used iMovie to make the trailer. I picked a movie trailer template, where you can add your own scenes and titles and voiceovers. I even did my own voiceover and made it sound like a real movie trailer narrator.

I am still working on my new animatic. I finished drawing the scenes, despite it. For now, it’s just simple cartoon drawings. This is fine, ‘cause it’s just an animatic. I need to draw some numbers on each scene. Next, we'll scan in my drawings and put them on iMovie, then I’m going to work out the timings. And I might plan some sound effects on it. There is only one voiceover ‘cause it’s just a short prologue.

Thank you!

UPDATE!

My animatic is finished! I finished the scenes, my Mum gave them to James, James scanned them in, we edited them together, added sound and music to it and, BINGO, FINISHED! So, watch it below.
